New Delhi, April 2: The Delhi High Court has issued a strong directive regarding the 26-year-old song ‘Volume 1’ by Honey Singh and Badshah. Following controversies surrounding Badshah’s ‘Tattiri’ and Nora Fatehi’s ‘Sarke Chunar Teri’, the court has ordered the removal of ‘Volume 1’ from all social media and music streaming platforms.
The court expressed that the song is deeply disturbing and described it as extremely derogatory and obscene. It emphasized that no civilized society should permit such content on digital platforms.
Originally released in 2000, ‘Volume 1’ faced backlash at the time. Badshah had previously clarified that he did not write the lyrics, while Honey Singh later admitted at an event that he was the lyricist.
Honey Singh performed ‘Volume 1’ during the early days of the hip-hop group ‘Mafia Mundeer’, which later disbanded. The group included artists like Raftaar, Badshah, Manj Musik, Lil Golu, and De Star, all of whom eventually opted to release solo tracks.
Previously, Honey Singh faced criticism for comments made during a concert in Delhi regarding winter and women, for which he later apologized via social media. This is not the first time he has been accused of indecency; his comeback songs ‘Maniac’ and ‘I Am a Womanizer’ have also sparked controversy.
In a related incident, Badshah’s song ‘Tattiri’ was recently removed from all social media platforms due to the use of derogatory language towards women. The Haryana Women’s Commission and the National Women’s Commission summoned the singer, but he failed to appear before them. Badshah has publicly apologized for the song.
