New Delhi, March 16: The Delhi government has assured residents that there is no need to panic regarding the availability of cooking gas (LPG). Food and Supply Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced on Sunday that 70 teams have been formed to monitor gas stock and prevent black marketing.
These teams comprise officials from the police, the Weights and Measures department, and the Food and Supply department. They are actively monitoring markets, checking gas stocks, and taking strict action against hoarders and those selling gas illegally.
Sirsa warned hoarders to refrain from illegal activities and urged the public to maintain calm. He noted that some opposition members are unnecessarily creating a climate of fear, which only benefits black marketers.
He explained that due to global supply issues related to Gulf countries and rampant rumors, some individuals have begun purchasing excessive amounts of gas. Sirsa recalled that similar misinformation circulated during the demonetization and COVID-19 periods, but this time, the public is showing wisdom.
According to Sirsa, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has now authorized the sale of commercial LPG cylinders. This arrangement has been made in collaboration with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to ensure gas supply to essential sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, restaurants, and dairies.
He stated that approximately 20 percent of the daily requirement, equating to around 1,800 commercial cylinders, will be prioritized for distribution. This will be managed through controlled distribution of 19-kilogram cylinders, with bookings on a ‘first come, first served’ basis to prevent hoarding and ensure equal opportunity for all.
Sirsa mentioned that joint inspection teams are overseeing this arrangement to ensure that commercial users also receive gas while prioritizing domestic needs.
He added that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring the situation and reviewing it daily.
“There is no need to panic. Gas supply is completely normal. We are here to meet the needs of every household,” he stated.
Sirsa emphasized that the vigilance of the Delhi government has kept gas supply reliable, and under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the situation is fully under control.
