New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi’s Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, conducted a series of review meetings on Saturday with four district magistrates to address air pollution challenges. The discussions emphasized strategies to enhance air quality in the coming months.
According to a statement, the minister and officials deliberated on district-level strategies. These included identifying pollution sources, coordinating remedial measures, and ensuring sustainable improvements in air quality.
The meetings outlined a multi-tiered enforcement strategy. This plan features dedicated teams for ground-level monitoring, round-the-clock surveillance, hotspot-specific interventions, and coordinated actions against dust pollution, biomass burning, unauthorized industrial activities, and other local pollution sources.
Sirsa instructed the district administration to identify and map pollution hotspots based on data from Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring stations. The evaluation of these areas will take into account various sources, including road dust, traffic congestion, vehicle emissions, construction activities, unauthorized parking, open or uncovered spaces, biomass and waste burning, and other local pollution causes.
Officials will examine each hotspot systematically, focusing on pollution-causing activities within a 3-kilometer radius, wherever applicable. Based on these assessments, an action plan will be developed detailing pollution reduction measures, responsible agencies, and timelines.
Additionally, an “Action Taken Report” (ATR) has been requested from relevant departments and agencies. This report should include the steps taken, current status, locations, evidence, pending issues, and completion timelines. Sirsa plans to review progress within the next 15 days.
The minister held separate review meetings with officials from the eastern, northeastern, southeastern, and southern districts. Attendees included local legislators, district magistrates, deputy commissioners of police, municipal corporation commissioners, and senior officials from relevant departments.
During these meetings, officials discussed creating a roadmap tailored to each district and strengthening ground-level actions to tackle local pollution sources. Sirsa urged all departments and agencies to collaborate, define responsibilities, and ensure that pollution control measures are effectively implemented within the designated timelines. The government is prepared to reinforce pollution prevention strategies during the winter months and ensure comprehensive readiness.
The minister also emphasized the need for strict adherence to dust-control regulations during construction and demolition activities.
