
New Delhi, June 18: In a thrilling encounter during the Women’s T20 World Cup, the Indian team showcased an outstanding performance, defeating the Netherlands by 95 runs in the 10th match of the tournament. Star all-rounder Deepti Sharma achieved a remarkable milestone in this match.
Deepti has now jointly reached the top position in the list of wicket-takers in women’s international cricket. By claiming one wicket against the Netherlands, she equaled Jhulan Goswami’s record. Deepti has now taken a total of 355 wickets in international cricket.
Jhulan also holds 355 wickets. In third place is England’s Katherine Sciver-Brunt, who has taken 335 wickets, while Australia’s legendary all-rounder Ellyse Perry follows with 332 wickets. England’s spinner Sophie Ecclestone rounds out the top five with 327 wickets.
Batting first against the Netherlands, the Indian team scored 209 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana delivered an impressive performance, scoring 74 runs off 47 balls, including 11 fours and a six.
Shefali Verma contributed significantly as well, scoring 55 runs off 38 balls. Together, they formed a formidable partnership, adding 115 runs for the first wicket in just 11.4 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with 19 runs from 13 balls, while Richa Ghosh scored an unbeaten 20 runs off just 8 balls, hitting one four and two sixes. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 12 runs, and Deepti finished with 10 not out from 2 balls.
Chasing a daunting target of 210 runs, the Netherlands collapsed for just 114 runs. Babette de Leede was the top scorer for her team with 28 runs. India’s bowling attack was led by Shree Charni, who dazzled with her spin, taking 4 wickets for just 19 runs in 4 overs. Shefali Verma claimed 3 wickets for 20 runs, while Nandini Sharma also took 2 wickets.
