Warner Park, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : In a stunning display of batting, Sri Lankan cricketer Dasun Shanaka made history during the 25th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 at Warner Park on September 4. Playing for the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Shanaka achieved the fastest century in CPL history, propelling his team to a commanding 137-run victory over the St. Lucia Kings.

After winning the toss, the St. Lucia Kings opted to bowl first. St. Kitts began their innings with Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers, but their start was rocky. Mayers was dismissed for just 1 run, falling at a score of 8. Charles and his partner, Andre Fletcher, managed to build a partnership of 81 runs off 48 balls for the second wicket. Shanaka quickly made his mark, partnering with Fletcher to add 33 runs for the third wicket. Fletcher was dismissed for 64 runs, having hit 4 sixes and 6 fours off 38 balls, with the score at 128 in the 13th over.

What followed was an exhibition of explosive batting from Shanaka. After Fletcher’s departure, all runs came from Shanaka’s bat. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 121 runs off just 43 balls, featuring 12 sixes and 8 fours, leading his team to a total of 235 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs. Remarkably, he reached his century in only 39 balls, setting a new CPL record.

Chasing a target of 236 runs, the St. Lucia Kings struggled and were bowled out for just 98 runs in 13.5 overs. Their innings was particularly lackluster, save for a brief effort from opener Tim Seifert, who scored 50 runs off 36 balls.

For St. Kitts, Jeremiah Louis was the standout bowler, claiming 5 wickets for just 10 runs in 2.5 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga and Ashmid Ned each took 2 wickets, while Naseem Shah added 1 to the tally.
