Kolkata residents can now enjoy the famous Darjeeling oranges, thanks to an initiative by the State Agriculture Marketing Department. On Friday, 460 kilograms of Darjeeling oranges were sent from the hills to Kolkata by train. Starting Saturday, these oranges will be available at reasonable prices at Sufal Bangla stalls in Kolkata.
The oranges are not limited to Kolkata alone; they will also be sold at Sufal Bangla stalls in Siliguri and other districts across the state. In Siliguri, sales began on Friday itself. The oranges are being sold at Rs 140 per kilogram at mobile Sufal Bangla stalls, which operate twice a week in various wards of the city.
The Agriculture Marketing Department purchases the oranges directly from farmers in areas like Sitong and Sibtir at Rs 132 per kilogram. These fresh and high-quality Darjeeling oranges are then supplied at a fair price of Rs 140 per kilogram in Siliguri.
Anupam Maitra, Secretary of the Siliguri Controlled Market Committee, informed that Darjeeling oranges will be sold at Rs 185 per dozen at Sufal Bangla mobile stalls and outlets in Kolkata. This initiative ensures that fresh Darjeeling oranges will now be easily accessible to consumers throughout the state.
