CPI(M) to Review Assembly Election Losses in Three-Day Meeting in Kozhikode

Kozhikode, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] is set to commence a crucial three-day meeting in Kozhikode starting Sunday, following a significant defeat in the recent assembly elections. The state committee will conduct a thorough review of the party’s political and organizational status.

General Secretary M.A. Baby will inaugurate the meeting at the AKG Auditorium, linked to the district committee. Discussions are expected to focus on the political, ideological, and organizational factors that contributed to the electoral loss, as well as identifying strategies for revitalizing the party.

This meeting comes at a pivotal time as CPI(M) aims to redefine its political direction, strengthen grassroots organization, and reconnect with voters. Party leadership is anticipated to engage in a critical self-assessment, addressing not only the immediate causes of the defeat but also deeper vulnerabilities exposed during the elections.

Topics on the agenda will include the party’s messaging, campaign strategies, organizational coherence, and the ability to understand the evolving expectations of the public. Additionally, there may be a focus on corrective measures to enhance communication between leadership, party units, and the electorate.

A total of 307 representatives will participate, including Kerala Politburo members such as M.A. Baby, Pinarayi Vijayan, M.V. Govindan, and A. Vijayaraghavan. Five other Politburo members will attend as observers.

In a departure from its traditional review process, CPI(M) has initiated grassroots evaluations following the election results. Typically, the state committee prepares an initial assessment, which is then discussed at lower committee levels. However, this time, the party sought feedback directly from organizational units at various levels.

CPI(M) has also solicited direct feedback from the public regarding the reasons for their defeat and the party’s functioning. Responses, internal discussions, and guidelines from the Central Committee have been incorporated into the review report.

Subsequently, the state committee examined and approved this document, which has now been distributed to party units for further discussion. The final report and feedback gathered during this process will serve as the foundation for the discussions in Kozhikode.
