Court Denies Second Autopsy Request in Twisha Sharma Case

New Delhi, May 20: In a significant development in the Twisha Sharma death case, the court has rejected a petition for a second autopsy on the body. The Bhopal court, which heard the case on Wednesday, stated that the directives issued on May 19 for a re-examination and forensic analysis at AIIMS Delhi have been annulled.

The applicant had requested the authorities to issue instructions for the preservation of the body to prevent decomposition. According to the police report, the body is currently stored at AIIMS Bhopal’s mortuary at minus four degrees Celsius. However, officials from AIIMS Bhopal indicated that the body needs to be maintained at minus eighty degrees Celsius. Based on information from other institutions in Bhopal, there are no facilities available in the city to preserve the body at such low temperatures.

The court ordered that a letter be sent to the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Katara Hills police station. This letter will instruct them to obtain immediate written confirmation from medical institutions regarding the availability of facilities to preserve bodies at low temperatures in other major medical institutions across Madhya Pradesh. The court has requested a written report without delay.

Meanwhile, a new controversy has emerged regarding the body of Twisha Sharma, who was allegedly a victim of dowry harassment in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. The police have written to the victim’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, urging him to collect the body.

Twisha Sharma was married to Samarth Singh, and her family has filed a case under Section 498A for dowry harassment. The investigation is ongoing under case number 133/2026. The family insists on a second autopsy, expressing doubts about the first report. Conversely, the police argue that it is not feasible to keep the body in the mortuary for an extended period.
