New Delhi, May 17: The Delhi police have arrested a couple accused of targeting elderly passengers to steal their money. The suspects have been identified as Suresh (25) and Rajni, also known as Anjali (22). Authorities are currently interrogating the duo to gather more information. Recently, the couple allegedly stole ₹1 lakh from an elderly passenger while traveling in an e-rickshaw.
According to police reports, the victim had hired an e-rickshaw to travel from Shivaji Marg near Moti Nagar to the Fun Cinema red light. He was carrying a small bag containing ₹1 lakh. Upon reaching his destination, the victim discovered that his bag was torn and the money was missing. Following this, he filed a complaint at the Kirti Nagar police station, prompting an investigation.
To apprehend the suspects, a dedicated police team was formed, including Inspector Sunil Kumar, ASI Rajendra, ASI Deepak, Head Constable Pawan, Constable Chander Prakash, and Lady Constable Jyoti. The team thoroughly examined the crime scene and scrutinized CCTV footage to track the suspects’ movements and gather concrete evidence.
In the course of the investigation, police also recovered the e-rickshaw involved in the crime. The suspects have since been identified and arrested. Authorities are continuing to question them to obtain comprehensive details about the incident.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to typically targeting elderly passengers for theft. Police have also recovered ₹90,000 from their possession. However, there is no record of any previous criminal history for either suspect.
Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing to ensure that no elderly individuals fall victim to such incidents in the future.
