Chandigarh, April 21: A significant controversy has emerged surrounding the new documentary series ‘Lawrence of Punjab.’ The creators recently announced the release date for the series, set for April 27.
The father of the late singer Sidhu Moosewala has voiced strong opposition to the series. He questions the government’s decision to create a narrative around gangsters and criminals, suggesting it could inspire the youth negatively.
Balkaur Singh, Moosewala’s father, expressed his concerns during a media interaction. He stated, “Gangsters are being portrayed as heroes, which could be dangerous for young people.” He pointed out that Punjab is home to many martyrs, scientists, and athletes who deserve to have their stories told instead of focusing on a gangster. Singh emphasized that the individual in question was responsible for his son’s death, and justice has yet to be served.
He remarked, “The Lawrence gang has multiple cases registered against them for various crimes, and they have caused the deaths of many children in Punjab. Either the government is wrong, or the Lawrence gang is. If they are so innocent, why are they in jail? The government should release them. My question to the government is why are gangsters and criminals being glorified?”
Singh further urged the government to ban such films, stating, “It is completely wrong to glorify those who choose a life of crime. The youth in Punjab are already heading down the wrong path, and such films could exacerbate this issue.”
