
New Delhi, March 25: The Delhi Assembly witnessed a significant uproar when Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma raised serious allegations regarding expenditures at the residence of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Presenting an extensive list in the house, he claimed that the residence, likened to a ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ was adorned with extremely expensive luxury items.
Pravesh Verma asserted that everything from gym equipment to furniture and electronic gadgets at the Chief Minister’s residence was exorbitantly priced. He noted that a treadmill cost approximately ₹14 lakh, with an additional payment made for a trainer. Furthermore, around ₹3 lakh was spent on a set of dumbbells.
He revealed that a large 88-inch TV was installed, with a total expenditure of ₹27 lakh on three televisions. Other amenities included a chimney, sofa, mini bar, and entrance lighting.
Discussing furniture costs, Verma mentioned that two tenders were issued for a sofa set, one for ₹35 lakh and another for ₹1.5 lakh. The house featured 76 tables, costing about ₹1.05 crore, while ₹40 lakh was spent on eight beds, ₹60 lakh on chairs, and ₹50 lakh on consoles.
He also highlighted that curtains worth ₹1.5 crore were installed, along with carpets costing ₹60 lakh and small poufs.
Verma further stated that a large dining table, accommodating 28 people, was purchased for ₹14 lakh. Additionally, gym equipment included a spin bike priced at ₹1 lakh, a fusion crest machine at ₹3 lakh, and body solid equipment costing ₹6 lakh.
He mentioned that approximately ₹12 lakh was spent on electrical items and ₹14 lakh on decorative ceiling fittings.
Verma claimed that a total of 11 televisions were installed, costing ₹1.5 crore, along with expensive equipment such as a barbecue unit, ceiling speakers, cameras, amplifiers, and pre-amplifiers. He stated that 50 air conditioners were installed, along with an inverter system costing ₹5 lakh.
He alleged that all tenders and estimates for these works were prepared and approved on the same day.
Verma accused that a significant heist had been committed using the public’s money. He also alleged that threatening emails were being sent to disrupt the budget session.
