Congress Releases New Candidate List for Assam Elections

New Delhi, March 20: The Congress party has released another list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, including names for key constituencies. Additionally, some seats have been reserved for the ally party, Raijor Dal.

According to an official statement from Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, the party’s central election committee has finalized candidates for several constituencies across Upper Assam, North Bank, and the Barak Valley regions.

Notable candidates include Bidisha Niyog for the Jalukbari seat, Rohit Pariga for the Tangla seat, and Jayanta Borah for the Biswanath seat. Joy Prakash Das will contest from the reserved Nowboicha (Scheduled Tribe) seat, while Gyandeep Mohan has been nominated from Mahimora. In Titabor, Congress has fielded Pran Kurmi as its candidate. Rahul Roy has been chosen to contest from Hailakandi in the Barak Valley, indicating a continued focus on strengthening the party’s base in the region.

Meanwhile, under a broader opposition alliance strategy, Congress has left several constituencies, including Manas, Dalgaon, Dhing, Kaliabor, Tezpur, Sissibargaon, Margherita, Digboi, Sivasagar, Mariyani, and Bokakhat, for its ally Raijor Dal.

This seat-sharing arrangement reflects the ongoing efforts of opposition parties to consolidate anti-BJP votes ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in Assam.

Political analysts believe that Congress is trying to balance the deployment of strong local candidates while accommodating its allies to prevent vote splitting.

This latest announcement follows previous candidate lists released by Congress as it prepares to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the northeastern state.

The nomination process is ongoing, and election campaigning is set to intensify. As a result, the electoral battle in Assam may witness multi-cornered contests in several constituencies, making the selection of alliances and candidates critical for the final outcomes.
