Congress Leaders Assert Right to Conduct Mock Parliament Against Gyanesh Kumar
Congress leaders claim their right to hold a Mock Parliament to discuss impeachment against Gyanesh Kumar amid rising tensions.

New Delhi, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : A ‘Mock Parliament’ was organized at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Friday, ahead of a planned rally on November 1. Congress and other opposition leaders stated that they have the full authority to conduct this session to discuss the impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar.
BK Hariprasad, the Karnataka Congress President, told reporters that their requests to hold a ‘Mock Parliament’ near the Parliament building had been dismissed by the Prime Minister. He emphasized that with all their demands rejected, it is only natural for Kharge, who leads the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, to initiate this ‘Mock Parliament’ session. “We have every right to conduct this session to discuss the impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar,” he asserted.
Hariprasad further stated that the movement would persist as long as Kumar holds significant positions. The Congress has already announced several protests at the block level against Kumar’s leadership.
CPM MP John Brittas commented that their actions reflect the sentiments of millions who desire the restoration of democracy and accountability in constitutional institutions. He criticized the current situation where electoral fairness is compromised and the Election Commission appears biased. “In such circumstances, we have no choice but to engage in this form of political and public ‘impeachment,'” Brittas explained.
He urged Gyanesh Kumar to resign immediately, citing a loss of moral standing and questioning his legal authority following indirect judicial scrutiny.
Manoj Pandey of the JMN party also responded on the ‘India’ blog, asserting the need for a public uprising against the oppressive government. He framed the ‘Mock Parliament’ as part of a broader revolutionary movement.
CPM MP V. Shivdasan made it clear that the CPM’s stance is unequivocal. He accused Gyanesh Kumar of acting solely for the RSS and BJP, claiming he has no right to remain in such a significant constitutional role. Shivdasan asserted that Kumar and his team are attempting to undermine the democratic framework of the country, and a substantial campaign against them is underway by the CPM and leftist parties.
