Political Firestorm Erupts Over Naseeruddin Shahs Intellectual Naxalite Comment

Naseeruddin Shahs controversial statement sparks political backlash, with BJP and JMM exchanging heated remarks.

New Delhi, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Naseeruddin Shah’s recent declaration of himself as a “mental Naxalite” has ignited a political controversy in India. The actor’s statement has drawn sharp criticism from BJP leaders, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has come to his defense.

BJP MP Yogendra Chandelia responded to Shah’s remarks by emphasizing that while everyone has the right to express their opinions, Shah is not the only one criticizing the government. He added, “If he identifies as a Naxalite, I would like to remind him that Amit Shah has decided to eradicate Naxalism in the country. If Naxalism is eliminated, it will also mean the end for individuals like him.”

BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh also weighed in, suggesting that Shah should seek medical attention. He criticized the actor for being selective in his statements, pointing out that Shah remained silent during the alleged atrocities against women in West Bengal under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration.

In contrast, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey defended Shah, stating, “Today, every aware citizen is labeled a Naxalite. When tribals raise their voices, they are called Naxalites. When Sikhs speak out, they are termed Khalistani. Any intellectual who voices dissent is also branded a Naxalite. They should keep their definitions to themselves. Those fighting for the nation and its rights are standing against this narrative.”

Shah’s controversial video on social media, where he boldly proclaimed, “I proudly say I am a mental Naxalite,” has raised questions about the government’s impact on youth morale, educational integrity, and democracy itself. He has also fiercely rebutted critics who label him as “anti-national” and part of a “tukde-tukde gang.”
