Priyanka Chopras Short Film We Were Here Qualifies for Oscars
Priyanka Chopras short film We Were Here has qualified for the Oscars, showcasing a comedic take on AIs impact on society.

Mumbai, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s short film “We Were Here” has made the cut for Oscar eligibility, marking a significant achievement for the actress and producer. Expressing her excitement, Chopra noted that the film tackles a contemporary and crucial theme in a fresh and engaging manner.
As an executive producer, Chopra is closely associated with the project. “We Were Here” is a mockumentary that tells the story of three elderly men in a small Indian town who take on the form of household appliances to protest against the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
The film has garnered several awards at major short film festivals, including the Best Live-Action Short Film and Best Comedy Short at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, paving its way to Oscar qualification.
Chopra emphasized the importance of the film’s subject, stating, “It addresses a topic that is very relevant today in a fun way. I was eager to support this creative team as an executive producer to help their story reach a wider audience.”
Writer-director Pranav Bhasin shared that “We Were Here” began as a small and humorous idea. He became enamored with the characters and their friendship as they sought to resist AI. “In India, reality can often be stranger than fiction, and the mockumentary format allowed me to connect the film with real people and places, highlighting how absurd things can get,” he explained.
Bhasin expressed his disbelief at the film’s Oscar qualification, saying, “I made it just like I make everything else—pursuing an idea that seemed crazy to me. I never expected anyone else would understand it.”
He concluded, “As a young filmmaker, it’s a huge honor to work alongside seasoned talents like Andrew Scott and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. We are all excited to share this film with as many people as possible.”
