Congress Leader Udit Raj Criticizes Government Response Amid Protests

New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leader Udit Raj recently spoke out against the government’s inaction, particularly in light of ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He expressed concerns over several pressing issues, including the National Register of Citizens (NRC), comments made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, and the effectiveness of opposition unity.

Raj highlighted that the government is failing to address issues in Parliament. He criticized the ruling party for not listening to the opposition or engaging in meaningful debate. “When voices are not heard in Parliament, it’s natural for people to take to the streets,” he stated. He also questioned the security measures taken to prevent protesters from gathering, noting the heavy security presence he encountered while heading to Parliament on Gandhi Jayanti.

On the topic of Captain Smita Machhar’s recent video call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Raj acknowledged that showing respect to public figures is normal. However, he commended Captain Machhar’s bravery in ensuring the safety of passengers during a challenging situation, calling it a commendable act that elevated the nation’s pride.

Regarding Bhagwat’s assertion that religion could endanger the country, Raj argued for the separation of religion and national identity. He emphasized that while religious beliefs may evolve, humanity should remain unaffected. “The security of the nation and humanity is paramount,” he added.

Raj also addressed the RSS’s demand for nationwide NRC implementation, insisting that Parliament should clarify the criteria for such measures. He raised concerns about the Election Commission‘s role, claiming that it should ensure free and fair elections, yet serious questions about data integrity and election processes persist. He criticized the legal protections granted to election commissioners, asserting that accountability is essential.

Responding to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s attacks on Congress, Raj urged him to focus on his own party’s governance before criticizing others. He also commented on the performance of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi.

In light of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s remarks about ethanol blending, Raj stressed the importance of public opinion on the matter, claiming growing discontent among citizens. He called for Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to provide answers.

Finally, in response to Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s invitation for opposition unity against the BJP, Raj stressed the necessity of collaboration among political parties to uphold democracy and constitutional values.
