Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Accuses Election Commission of Voter Fraud, Calls for Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner
Jairam Ramesh demands reforms in the Election Commission, alleging it has facilitated voter fraud by withholding searchable voter lists.

New Delhi, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has raised serious allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming it has aided in “vote theft” by failing to provide searchable voter lists to political parties for eight years. He has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) process.
In a post on X, Ramesh stated, “For the past two years, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have consistently demanded that the ECI provide all political parties with voter lists in a searchable format. The ECI has repeatedly rejected this request, having stopped providing searchable voter lists in 2018 after Congress uncovered millions of fake voters in Madhya Pradesh. This rejection over eight years has facilitated ‘vote theft.’”
Ramesh highlighted that on October 15, the Election Commission issued an order stating that searchable voter lists would be made available for a “Special Summary Revision” (SSR) that resumed after a two-year hiatus in 17 states and union territories. He suggested that this decision came in response to widespread public outcry against “vote thieves.”
He further accused the central government of employing various tactics to cover up instances of vote theft, including halting searchable voter lists and adding fake voters. “This time, however, it won’t work. No one can save Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who has destroyed public trust in the Election Commission by acting on the orders of the Prime Minister and Home Minister. He must resign. But that alone won’t suffice; a complete overhaul of the Indian Election Commission and its IT systems is essential. The SIR process has jeopardized the constitutional voting rights of over 130 million Indians and should be suspended immediately.”
