Mumbai, June 10: Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that he has not surpassed the achievements of Jawaharlal Nehru, despite Modi being the longest-serving elected Prime Minister. Dalwai stated that the NDA is deliberately spreading confusion in the country, asserting that Modi has accomplished nothing significant in his 12 years in office. He emphasized that Nehru’s contributions remain unmatched by Modi.
Dalwai also condemned Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s controversial remarks, labeling them detrimental to the nation. He accused Adityanath, Modi, and their allies of consistently raising issues related to Hinduism, questioning why they blame others for the communal discord they themselves create.
He remarked that the ongoing focus on Hindu identity by Adityanath and Modi is contributing to a divisive atmosphere in India. Dalwai pointed out that BJP leaders are undermining communal harmony in the name of religion while shifting the blame onto others.
Adityanath had previously stated that India cannot be a “Dharmshala” for those who lack faith in the country and do not respect its traditions.
Regarding the recent meeting of the Indi Alliance, Dalwai responded positively to statements made by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. He noted that their demands are consistently addressed by Rahul Gandhi, indicating Congress’s commitment to inclusivity.
Dalwai emphasized the importance of unity among alliance partners, asserting that Congress respects the sentiments of all coalition members and is collectively working to safeguard democracy.
Supporting Rahul Gandhi’s allegations about discrepancies in the voter list and the functioning of the Election Commission, Dalwai expressed that the Congress party is not merely disappointed but also angry. He criticized the current state of affairs, claiming it undermines the integrity of fair elections, as essential processes and security measures are being compromised.
He further alleged that the government appointed its own secretary as the election commissioner, which he believes has weakened the independence of the Election Commission. Dalwai accused the government of attempting to undermine critical institutions, including the judiciary, by placing individuals affiliated with the RSS in key positions.
