Murshidabad, August 3: Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has defended Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav’s protest in the Parliament complex, launching a sharp attack on the central government. He stated that protests in Parliament are a fundamental part of democracy. If allegations of irregularities in the Ram Temple fund are being raised, the government must respond.
Chowdhury commented on Yadav’s demonstration regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds for the Ram Temple, emphasizing that the opposition has consistently raised various issues in different ways within Parliament. He noted that if there are accusations of theft amounting to thousands of crores in the temple fund, the public will undoubtedly demand answers. The protest aimed to highlight these allegations, and it is essential to clarify whether any wrongdoing occurred in the fund management. Discussions on this topic are widespread across the nation, and if the government is attempting to divert attention with new excuses, the public will not accept it.
Regarding the arrests of suspected terrorists by the STF in West Bengal’s Bardhaman and Howrah, Chowdhury stated that these incidents demonstrate the establishment of a terrorist network in the state. Regardless of the government in power, it is the administration’s responsibility to curb such activities promptly. Previous incidents, such as the explosion in Khagragarh, have shown that conditions have not improved as expected. Investigative agencies are gradually uncovering the terrorist network and its alleged connections to Pakistan. He stressed that terrorism knows no religion, caste, or creed, and such incidents should not lead to communal divisions in society. He urged everyone to maintain peace and social harmony.
Condemning the attack on MP Pappu Yadav, Chowdhury asserted that every citizen has a constitutional right to express their views and protest. If someone disagrees with those views, the resolution should be within the bounds of law, not through violence. He emphasized that any illegal actions should be dealt with through the judicial system, and attacking someone’s home is a direct injustice and cruelty. He called on people to remain vigilant and aware in such matters and to protest democratically.
Chowdhury also expressed disappointment over the acquittal of former MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh in the case of harassment against female wrestlers. He described this as a deeply unfortunate situation that sends a negative message to society. The female athletes who brought glory to the nation on international platforms had to protest and fast at Jantar Mantar for justice. During that time, the police treated the protesting athletes harshly, yet they hoped for justice from the judiciary. The preparation of documents and evidence presented in court is the responsibility of the administration, and if the investigation is not conducted properly, justice may be compromised. The acquittal of the accused, despite the alleged injustice against female athletes, is regrettable and could undermine women’s faith in justice.
