Mumbai, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leader and MLC Bhai Jagtap expressed deep sorrow over the recent deaths at the Satya Niketan PG hostel in Delhi, criticizing the local government for its handling of safety measures. He called for a thorough investigation and stringent action against those responsible for the incident.
Jagtap emphasized the need for regular structural audits of hostel buildings, as many students from across the country reside in such facilities while studying in Delhi. He urged Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to take responsibility, asserting that merely ordering an investigation is insufficient. He insisted that the findings of the inquiry should be made public, clearly identifying those accountable for the tragedy.
He further stated that if negligence on the part of engineers, hostel owners, or caretakers is uncovered, they must face serious repercussions. “Suspending officials alone will not establish true accountability,” he remarked.
In response to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comments labeling the organization as one that spreads “pure, sattvic love” in London, Jagtap questioned the RSS’s actions and urged the organization to demonstrate its character through deeds rather than words. He also criticized the RSS’s historical role in the freedom movement, claiming that its narrative diverges from the Congress perspective.
Jagtap addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks from 2013 regarding India’s economic conditions, highlighting the current economic struggles. He pointed to GDP figures and noted that numerous economists have raised concerns about the government’s economic policies. “If the GDP is purportedly growing, its impact should be visible in the lives of ordinary citizens,” he said, citing rising inflation and financial pressures faced by families.
Regarding the alleged assault at a hospital in Palghar, where 16 individuals, including a Shiv Sena leader, are implicated, Jagtap condemned the incident. He called for the arrest of the accused and strict legal action if they are found guilty after investigation. He also urged political leaders to monitor the behavior of their supporters.
On the claims surrounding Murji Patel’s alleged “Operation Tiger-4” and the involvement of 14 legislators from the Thackeray faction in discussions with Eknath Shinde, Jagtap stated that he lacks personal knowledge but has heard such rumors. He condemned attempts to influence political parties and elected representatives through money, pressure, or fear, arguing that it undermines democratic principles. He insisted that any legislator wishing to switch parties should resign their position and seek re-election among the public.
Jagtap also asserted that allegations of legislators being offered large sums of money during the Maharashtra government collapse are troubling. He denounced such practices as detrimental to democracy, stating that such tactics should not be employed to gain power.
