New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Congress has responded to a recent report from the Ministry of Defence, which indicated a decrease in the deployment of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The party stated on Monday that significant differences between India and China remain unresolved. They believe that these issues can only be addressed through continuous dialogue, negotiation, and efforts to build mutual trust. Furthermore, Congress has called on the government to maintain transparency regarding this matter.
Karti Chidambaram, a Congress MP, highlighted the complexity of India-China relations, which encompass trade, border disputes, and security concerns. He stressed that these challenges can only be effectively resolved through ongoing discussions and cooperation.
In an interview, Chidambaram remarked, “India and China’s relationship is multifaceted. We share trade ties, border disputes, and security concerns. All these issues can only be resolved through sustained dialogue. We are both large nations with significant populations, strong economies, and powerful military capabilities, and we cannot ignore this reality.”
He also urged the government to clarify the extent of the reported reduction in Chinese troop deployment along the LAC. Chidambaram questioned whether there had been any incursions into Indian territory and whether new military structures or fortifications had been established by China along the border.
“Whenever the government makes such claims, it should present the facts transparently. While we welcome dialogue, it is through continuous conversation that we can resolve these issues,” he added.
Congress leader Pawan Khera raised concerns regarding patrol arrangements in eastern Ladakh. He noted that prior to May 2020, the Indian Army regularly accessed certain patrol points in the Ladakh region. Khera insisted that it should be clarified whether Indian troops can still patrol these areas and if the situation along the border has returned to its previous state.
He called for clear answers from the Defence Minister, the Ministry of Defence, or the Home Minister regarding these pressing questions.
According to the Defence Ministry’s annual report for 2025-26, a significant reduction in PLA deployment has been observed following India’s deployment of ten brigade-level military units along the LAC and traditional training areas.
The report states that the Indian Army’s presence along the LAC is strong, balanced, and fully prepared to respond to any emergencies. The ten brigades deployed in 2025 included combined arms structures, comprising infantry, armored units, artillery, and air defense units, capable of conducting independent military operations and responding effectively to various situations.
The Defence Ministry also noted that alongside securing northern borders, political, diplomatic, and military dialogues between India and China have continued, contributing to stability in border areas. The report further mentioned that various mechanisms for dialogue and resolution of border-related issues between the two countries have been reactivated and will continue.
