Congress Calls for Rally to Defend Democracy Amid Election Concerns

Congress leader K.C. Venugopal urges citizens to join the November 1 rally against alleged electoral irregularities.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : K.C. Venugopal, the Congress MP and party general secretary, has issued a rallying cry to all Indians to attend a significant protest on November 1 in New Delhi. This demonstration is organized by the ‘India’ coalition and aims to address alleged irregularities in the electoral process overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In a video message shared on social media platform X, Venugopal labeled the event “Chalo Dilli, Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao,” highlighting what he described as an ongoing assault on democracy. He pointed to the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Review (SIR), alleging that 130 million names have been removed from the voter list and that widespread fraud is occurring across states.

Criticizing the central government, Venugopal stated, “Our votes are being stolen, and when we demand answers, we face police brutality and detention. We will neither remain silent nor afraid; we will continue to fight for our democracy.” He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, is at the forefront of this struggle, insisting that opposition leaders are bravely holding those in power accountable.

Venugopal further urged citizens to stand with Gandhi in this fight. He announced that a large rally and march would take place at Ramleela Maidan, where demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and accountability from the Modi government will be made.

“This is the time to raise our voices. The future of our democracy is at stake, and we cannot remain silent. Jai Hind!” he declared. Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed that the protest is proceeding as planned, aiming to awaken the public against what he termed the NDA government’s dictatorship.

Congress MP Kumari Shailaja echoed this sentiment, stating that Rahul Gandhi and other leaders are fighting for democracy both in the streets and in Parliament. She criticized the government’s suppression of their voices during parliamentary sessions.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Manish Tewari questioned the BJP’s “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” march, suggesting that if 130 million disenfranchised voters had their rights restored, such rallies would be unnecessary.
