Chhattisgarh Congress Leader Criticizes UP Governments Order on Protests

Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij condemns UP governments order restricting protests, claiming it undermines democratic rights.

Raipur, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij has expressed strong opposition to the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent directive concerning protests related to government jobs. He labeled the order as a “Tughlaq decree,” asserting that every individual has the constitutional right to express their opinions and engage in protests.

Baij accused the government of acting out of fear, particularly ahead of the rally scheduled for November 1 in Delhi. He emphasized that millions of youth and activists are expected to participate in this significant event, regardless of the government’s attempts to suppress dissent.

“This is a Tughlaq decree. Does this country not allow the right to protest in a democracy? The Constitution guarantees every person the right to voice their concerns and to engage in demonstrations,” Baij stated. He criticized the government’s actions as an attempt to undermine constitutional rights, asserting that such decrees reflect a government in panic.

He further claimed that the government is trying to stifle voices by imposing restrictions, but he assured that the youth, students, and activists will not comply. “On November 1, the public will gather in large numbers for the protest in Delhi,” he insisted.

Baij also mentioned that the Congress party had requested special trains for protesters traveling to Delhi. Initially, the government agreed to provide trains upon payment, but later canceled them, indicating a reluctance to facilitate the protest.

Addressing the issue of Knowledge Kumar, he accused the central and state governments, particularly those ruled by the BJP, of making extraordinary efforts to protect him, as they are aware of the political implications tied to his position. He claimed that despite these efforts, the upcoming rally is set to be the largest in the country’s history, with over one million expected attendees.

In a pointed remark, Baij referenced Rahul Gandhi’s statement that if the government announces Knowledge Kumar’s removal, the rally could end in seconds. He argued that the rally would benefit local businesses, as attendees would contribute to the economy through purchases during the festive season.

Reflecting on recent electoral results, Baij noted the BJP’s losses in key constituencies like Varanasi and Allahabad, suggesting that even in their strongholds, the party is facing challenges. He advocated for the use of ballot papers in upcoming elections, arguing that it would prevent the BJP from securing victories.
