Protests Erupt in Bhopal as Selected Teacher Candidates Demand Action

Selected teacher candidates in Bhopal stage protests demanding action from the government, leading to clashes with police.

Bhopal, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : A protest by selected candidates for Class 3 teacher positions in Madhya Pradesh intensified on Thursday in Bhopal. Demonstrators lay down on the road, causing significant traffic disruptions. Police intervened, using mild force to disperse the crowd and arrest several protesters.

The candidates have been staging a sit-in for the past 26 days at Board Square in the capital. On Thursday afternoon, their actions escalated as they blocked the road, halting traffic in both directions. Police arrived to clear the area, resulting in confrontations.

Protesters allege that police officers assaulted them while attempting to remove them from the street. However, the police deny these claims, stating that the protesters did not have permission for their demonstration.

The candidates expressed frustration over a prior meeting with the state’s school education minister, who had assured them of job placements. They argue that the minister’s promises have not materialized, prompting the continuation of their protests. They maintain that their demonstration was peaceful until police intervention.

The ongoing unrest over teacher recruitment has been a persistent issue in the state. Previously, candidates for Class 1 and Class 2 teacher positions have also protested, and now the Class 3 candidates are gaining momentum. The Congress party has criticized the police’s handling of the situation, stating that instead of addressing the candidates’ demands, the government is resorting to force.

The situation remains tense as the candidates continue to call for action from the government.
