Patna, March 9: Dr. Santosh Kumar Suman, Bihar’s Minister for Minor Water Resources and National President of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), has expressed deep concern and anger over the recent disrespect shown towards constitutional positions in West Bengal. This includes the incident where the Chief Election Commissioner was met with black flags during a visit to Kolkata.
Dr. Suman stated that the treatment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is not just an affront to an individual but a significant insult to a vital constitutional institution. The dignity and independence of bodies like the Election Commission are paramount in a democracy. The atmosphere created under the protection of the state government is extremely unfortunate and poses a dangerous signal.
He criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming her politics has devolved into open appeasement and protection of infiltrators. It is alarming that the state government is promoting elements that challenge the country’s constitutional institutions.
Dr. Suman also condemned the irresponsible statements and behavior directed towards the President of India, calling it utterly disgraceful. In any democratic system, the President symbolizes the highest constitutional dignity, and such attitudes are an affront to the entire nation.
He noted that these ongoing incidents indicate that the West Bengal government’s stance is increasingly against constitutional norms and national interests. The law and order situation in the state is deteriorating, and respect for constitutional institutions is no longer assured.
Dr. Suman urged the central government to seriously consider imposing President’s Rule in West Bengal to safeguard the dignity of constitutional order and democratic institutions in the state. He emphasized that while the right to protest is fundamental in a democracy, disrespect towards constitutional positions and institutions is unacceptable under any circumstances.
