Dhamtari, 18 November (Daily Kiran). A sharp drop in temperatures has brought severe cold conditions to Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district, disrupting daily life as November enters its second week. The mercury has dipped to 13°C at night, while daytime temperatures are hovering around 26°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, the district is experiencing a significant fall in temperature, with cold winds intensifying the chill. A blanket of fog begins to settle after 5:30 pm, making evenings and late nights much colder than mornings. Residents are avoiding stepping out without warm clothing, and many are relying on bonfires across markets, crossroads, and rural areas to cope with the biting cold. Groups of people can also be seen lighting fires outside their homes to stay warm.
With the sudden temperature drop, the demand for winter wear in local markets has surged. Sales of sweaters, woollen caps, mufflers and jackets have picked up noticeably. The department said weather changes had begun in the first week of November, causing temperatures to steadily decline. The cold wave is expected to intensify in the coming days.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, use adequate warm clothing, and avoid stepping out unnecessarily during late-night hours.
