Beijing, February 16: The most significant traditional festival in China, the Spring Festival, will be celebrated on Tuesday. On the eve of this festival, Monday night, the China Media Group (CMG) presented the 2026 ‘Spring Festival Gala’ at 8 PM Beijing time (5:30 PM Indian time).
This event was broadcasted globally through the China Global Television Network (CGTN), a subsidiary of CMG, reaching audiences in over 200 countries and regions. It was made available in 85 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian, with the collaboration of more than 3,300 media outlets.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2026 marks the Year of the Horse. In Chinese culture, the horse symbolizes self-improvement and determination. This year’s gala theme, ‘Galloping Horse, Unstoppable Momentum,’ encourages individuals to persistently strive towards their dreams.
The program showcased visual wonders through modern technology, featuring artists from various countries who conveyed messages of global unity and welcomed the New Year through music and dance.
Notably, the ‘Spring Festival Gala’ is China’s most famous television cultural event. Since 1983, CMG has broadcast this gala live on the eve of the Spring Festival. Watching the gala, alongside traditional Spring Festival customs, has become an integral part of celebrations for Chinese families worldwide.
It is worth mentioning that in December 2024, the Spring Festival was included in UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage. Currently, around 20 countries and regions recognize the Spring Festival as a public holiday, with nearly 20% of the world’s population celebrating it in various forms.
