Chinas Special Envoy Clarifies Beijings Stance on Middle East Situation

Beijing, March 25: On March 23, the China Public Diplomacy Association hosted a special conference in Beijing. The event featured a briefing by China’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, who addressed both Chinese and foreign media regarding the current situation in the region.

Zhai Jun emphasized that the situation in the Middle East is extremely tense. The escalating conflict is spreading to surrounding areas, drawing significant international attention. He stated that China’s position is clear, focusing on calls for a ceasefire and the initiation of dialogue and negotiation.

During his visit to the region, Zhai Jun reiterated China’s stance to the countries involved.

Firstly, he remarked that this is a war that should never have occurred. Amid widespread hopes for peace and stability among the people of the Middle East, and with a new round of talks between Iran and the United States underway, the sudden outbreak of war by the U.S. and Israel has derailed diplomatic efforts.

Secondly, the right and wrong aspects of this crisis are evident. The U.S. and Israel attacked Iran without the authorization of the United Nations Security Council, which constitutes a severe violation of the UN Charter and international law. China firmly opposes and condemns this action.

Thirdly, it is crucial to resolutely prevent the spread and escalation of the conflict. The ongoing struggle poses a serious threat to security and stability in the Middle East, impacting the global economy, energy supplies, and maritime routes, thus endangering the welfare of all nations.

Fourthly, a ceasefire is of utmost importance, and fifthly, dialogue and negotiation are the fundamental solutions.

Zhai Jun noted that the countries he visited appreciated China’s impartial stance on the current regional situation and acknowledged its ongoing diplomatic mediation efforts since the conflict began. They expressed hope for China’s significant role in reducing tensions.
