China Urges US and Iran to Cease Hostilities and Pursue Dialogue
China calls for the US and Iran to halt conflict and engage in dialogue to resolve disputes amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Beijing, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : China has called on the United States, Iran, and all involved parties to stop hostilities and resolve their disputes through dialogue. This appeal was made by China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, during an open Security Council meeting on Iran’s nuclear issues held on October 28.
Fu Cong highlighted the escalating tensions in the Middle East, which are impacting both regional and global peace and stability. He noted that talks between the US and Iran have stalled, while reports of new military preparations against Iran are further exacerbating the situation.
He pointed out that the US’s unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, the re-imposition of sanctions, and the ongoing strategy of maximum pressure are key factors contributing to the current deadlock.
Moreover, Fu Cong criticized three European nations for failing to uphold their responsibilities under the Iran nuclear deal while supporting the US’s unilateral sanctions. He described the rapid reinstatement of these sanctions as legally and procedurally flawed, undermining the unity and credibility of the UN Security Council.
Fu Cong also mentioned that the US and Israel have conducted military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which were under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). These attacks have complicated the IAEA’s ability to monitor these facilities. Despite this, certain countries have disregarded these circumstances and pushed for a proposal related to Iran’s oversight at the IAEA.
He labeled this move as politically motivated, asserting that it damages cooperation between the IAEA and Iran.
Fu Cong emphasized that the resolution of the nuclear issue can only be achieved through political and diplomatic dialogue, as outlined in the Iran nuclear agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 2231. He urged Iran to adhere to its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons and called for all parties to respect Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy as a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Additionally, he appealed to the US to commit to not launching military attacks on Iran, in order to ensure effective nuclear monitoring without military pressure.
