
Beijing: According to the China National Railway Group, railway travel across the country reached 4.255 billion passenger trips in 2025, marking a 4.2 percent increase compared to 2024. The busiest single day recorded a new high with 23.132 million railway journeys.
In 2025, the railway system transported 406.6 million tonnes of freight, showing a 2.1 percent growth from the previous year. This increase marks the ninth consecutive year of growth. For the first time, the number of loaded freight vehicles in a single day exceeded 200,000.
Railway fixed asset investment across China stood at 910.15 billion yuan in 2025, reflecting a 6 percent rise. A total of 3,109 kilometres of new railway lines were put into operation, including 2,862 kilometres of high-speed rail.
By the end of 2025, the total railway network length in China reached 165,000 kilometres, with the high-speed rail network exceeding 50,000 kilometres.
The China Railway Express completed 34,000 trips during the year, transporting 3.17 million TEUs, representing increases of 9.8 percent in trips and 7.6 percent in container volume compared to 2024.
