
Beijing, February 1 – According to data released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on February 1, China maintained its leading position in the global shipbuilding market for the 16th consecutive year in 2025 across three major shipbuilding indicators.
The data reveals that in 2025, China’s total shipbuilding completion reached 53.69 million deadweight tons (DWT), marking an 11.4% increase from 2024 and accounting for 56.1% of the world’s total volume.
New ship orders rose to 107.82 million DWT, representing 69.0% of the global total. By the end of December 2025, the order backlog reached 274.42 million DWT, a 31.5% growth compared to 2024, and made up 66.8% of the world’s total backlog.
