China Rejects Trumps Claims, Demands Evidence for Allegations

Beijing, April 24: China has firmly dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion that a detained Iranian ship may contain a “gift” sent by Beijing.

During a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated, “China rejects the unfounded accusations and speculations made without any factual evidence. Normal trade between countries should not be disrupted or harmed.”

Trump made his claims during an interview on Tuesday, where he mentioned that the U.S. had intercepted a ship containing suspicious cargo. He remarked, “This could possibly be a ‘gift’ from China. I was surprised by this, as I have good relations with President Xi Jinping, and I thought we had an understanding.”

Previously, on April 21, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley claimed that the ship intercepted by the U.S. in the Strait of Hormuz was en route from China to Iran and could potentially carry chemical materials for missiles. She noted on the social media platform X that this incident serves as a reminder of China’s support for the Iranian government.

On April 20, Guo Jiakun expressed concern over U.S. actions in media reports, stating that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is “complex and sensitive.” He described the forced detention of the ship as alarming and urged all parties to show responsibility and avoid escalating tensions.

It is noteworthy that the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, is a crucial route for global oil trade, through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes. Ongoing tensions in the Middle East have kept the situation in this region highly sensitive.
