Beijing, February 23: China has announced that starting May 1, it will implement a zero-tariff policy for all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations. This initiative has been warmly welcomed by African nations. Scholars from the continent assert that this zero-tariff measure is crucial and will create new development opportunities for Africa.

According to experts, this policy will accelerate economic growth in Africa, making it easier for African products to enter the Chinese market and gain a larger share of global development benefits. Amid a rising tide of trade protectionism, China’s actions clearly demonstrate what it means to be a true multilateral partner.

The scope and significant impact of this zero-tariff initiative range from resource-based products to agricultural exports. Many African countries have long faced challenges such as limited export markets and financing difficulties; this zero-tariff measure is seen as a gateway to new developmental opportunities.

Professor Peter Bauer, an economist at the University of Johannesburg, emphasized that this initiative is highly significant, providing South Africa with a genuine opportunity to benefit from international markets.
