Chhattisgarh CM to Transfer ₹500 Crore to 500,000 Landless Families

Raipur, March 24: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai will transfer approximately ₹500 crore directly into the bank accounts of 500,000 landless agricultural labor families on Wednesday. This initiative is part of the ‘Deendayal Upadhyay Landless Agricultural Labor Welfare Scheme.’

The transfer will take place in Balodabazar, marking a significant step in the state’s commitment to support the most vulnerable sections of rural society. Under this scheme, the government provides annual financial assistance of ₹10,000 directly to eligible families’ bank accounts.

In its 2026-27 budget, the state government has allocated ₹600 crore to ensure that the maximum number of needy families benefit from this program. A total of ₹495.96 crore has been earmarked for over 495,000 eligible families. This amount is distributed directly, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring that each beneficiary receives the full amount without any deductions.

The scheme is not limited to agricultural laborers alone. It also includes other landless families connected to the rural economy, such as those collecting forest produce, livestock keepers, carpenters, blacksmiths, cobblers, barbers, and washermen.

Additionally, families from the scheduled areas, including priests and communities like Baiga, Guniya, and Manjhi, are also included. Notably, 22,028 Baiga and Guniya families, regarded as guardians of the state’s rich cultural and traditional heritage, have been specifically brought under this scheme.

The annual assistance amount has been increased from ₹7,000 to ₹10,000, providing greater relief for education, healthcare, and daily living needs.

Raipur district has the highest number of beneficiaries at 53,338, followed by Bilaspur with 39,401 and Mahasamund with 37,011 beneficiaries. The lowest numbers are in Bijapur with 1,542, Korea with 1,549, and Narayanpur with 1,805 families.

The e-KYC verification process for all beneficiaries has been completed, ensuring full transparency and timely fund transfers.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai clarified that the aim of this scheme is not just to provide financial assistance. It seeks to increase the income of landless families, make them economically self-reliant, and integrate them into the social mainstream.
