Pune, February 19: On the occasion of Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, a significant crowd gathered at Shivneri Fort in Maharashtra’s Pune, leading to a tragic incident where a railing collapsed, injuring several attendees, including women and children. The situation escalated into a stampede, but local police acted swiftly to manage the chaos.

Reports indicate that large numbers of visitors began arriving at the fort from Wednesday night, including those carrying traditional Shiv Jyot and members of various organizations. The overwhelming crowd resulted in restricted access to essential areas within the fort.

Due to the immense pressure from the crowd, a railing inside the fort broke, creating a panic-stricken environment. In their rush to exit, some individuals attempted to climb over others. Narrow pathways, such as the area beneath the Ambar Khana and the Ganesh Darwaza, became nearly impassable due to the throng. This led to pushing and shoving, causing some people to fall amidst the confusion.

Pune’s Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Gill, confirmed the incident, stating that three to four individuals sustained minor injuries, with no serious cases reported. He assured the public that the situation has returned to normal and urged people to avoid spreading rumors and to cooperate with the authorities.

Police officers present at the scene assisted the injured and ensured they were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
