Celebrating 46 Years in Film: Action Director Sham Kaushal Reflects on His Journey

Mumbai, August 8: Veteran action director Sham Kaushal, father of actor Vicky Kaushal, marked an impressive 46 years in the film industry on Saturday. He took to social media to express his heartfelt gratitude.

In a video posted on Instagram, Sham shared his journey from Punjab to Mumbai in search of work. He revealed that he became a member of the Movie Stunt Artists Association on August 8, 1980, marking the beginning of his career in the film industry.

Reflecting on his journey, Sham stated, “I thank God every day, but today is particularly special. It was on this day, August 8, 1980, that I became a member of the Movie Stunts Artists Union, officially joining the film industry.”

He admitted that acting or filmmaking was never part of his original plan. “I didn’t come to the film industry from my village; I was simply looking for a job. I had found a position, but I couldn’t hold onto it due to my insecurities. With the help of some friends and divine intervention, I became part of this industry.”

Sham expressed gratitude to those who supported him during tough times, especially when he struggled to pay the union membership fee. “At that time, I needed 1,000 rupees to join the union, and I didn’t have that amount. I am very thankful to my friends who lent me 100 or 200 rupees to cover the fee. I also appreciate the hotel owners who provided me with free meals and those who helped with my room rent.”

He continued, “I am grateful to all the stuntmen, stunt directors, and action directors in the union who taught me the ropes and provided opportunities. Thanks to them, I was able to earn a living and support my family. In May 1990, I got the chance to become an action director. I owe my success to all the producers and directors who believed in me and offered me work and learning opportunities.”

Sham concluded by praising the film industry, stating, “The film industry is wonderful, and the people of Mumbai are great. May God keep everyone happy and healthy. Sending love to all. May God bless you.”
