CBI Custody of Shubham Khairnar Extended in NEET Paper Leak Case

New Delhi, May 20: The investigation into the NEET UG paper leak case is intensifying. The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has extended the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody of the main accused, Shubham Khairnar, by five days. Meanwhile, the remaining five arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody until June 2.

The CBI presented a total of six accused in court, all arrested on charges of paper leak and examination fraud. The accused include Shubham Khairnar from Nashik, Mangilal Biwal, Vikas Biwal, and Dinesh Biwal from Jaipur, Yash Yadav from Gurugram, and Dhananjay Lokhande from Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra.

The CBI requested an extension of Khairnar’s custody, stating that it is essential to confront him with the recently arrested individuals. Additionally, further questioning regarding electronic evidence is necessary. The agency informed the court that further recoveries are expected, and Khairnar needs to be taken to Maharashtra for the investigation.

The court accepted the CBI’s request to send the other five accused—Mangilal Biwal, Vikas Biwal, Dinesh Biwal, Yash Yadav, and Dhananjay Lokhande—to judicial custody until June 2.

Khairnar’s lawyer opposed the extension of CBI custody, arguing that the agency should clarify what it has discovered during the seven days of questioning.

The NEET UG 2026 paper leak case has become a topic of national discussion. With ongoing arrests and interrogations, investigative agencies are now attempting to reach the entire network and other individuals involved.
