CBI Arrests Three in Bribery Case Involving Deputy Director of DGMS

Hyderabad, August 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in a bribery case, arresting three individuals. Among those detained is the Deputy Director of DGMS for the Hyderabad-III region, a consultant/intermediary, and a representative from a private mining company.

On August 17, the CBI filed a case against the Deputy Director of DGMS, the consultant/intermediary, representatives from the private mining company, and other unidentified government officials and private individuals for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes.

The investigation was triggered by a deadly incident that occurred on June 25 at a mining site in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. Representatives from the mining company contacted the accused Deputy Director through the consultant/intermediary to secure a favorable investigation report regarding the accident, aiming to protect the owners of the mining company from liability. It is alleged that the intermediary had already paid the Deputy Director ₹100,000 as a bribe for a positive report.

Subsequently, arrangements were made to provide an additional ₹200,000 to the Deputy Director. This amount was scheduled to be delivered on August 17 in Ongole, with the intention of obtaining a favorable report in the accident case and facilitating the alleged quarterly bribe payments related to the private mining company and other mines.

On August 17, the CBI set a trap and caught the Deputy Director red-handed accepting the ₹200,000 bribe from the consultant/intermediary in the presence of the private mining company representative. During the operation, the CBI recovered the bribe amount of ₹200,000. Searches are ongoing at the residences of the accused in Ongole, Kadapa, and Hyderabad.

The three arrested individuals, including the Deputy Director, the private mining company representative, and the consultant/intermediary, were presented before a competent court in Vijayawada on Tuesday. The CBI continues its investigation and further actions related to this case.
