Washington, 16 August (Kiran News). The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) has reported that the season’s first Atlantic hurricane, ‘Erin’, has now intensified into a Category-4 hurricane and continues to strengthen.

Currently, the hurricane is located about 193 kilometres (120 miles) northeast of Anguilla. Its maximum sustained wind speeds have reached 233 kilometres per hour (145 miles per hour), placing it in the extremely dangerous category.
The NHC has warned that waves generated by this hurricane are expected to affect the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and the Turks and Caicos Islands through the weekend. In the coming days, these waves may also impact the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the eastern coast of the United States.
Additionally, heavy rainfall associated with the hurricane is expected until Sunday in the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
NHC experts have stated that if the hurricane’s speed and strength continue to increase, coastal areas may experience strong winds, high sea waves, and heavy rainfall, potentially impacting normal life on a large scale.
Authorities have advised local residents to remain alert and be prepared to deal with any possible emergency situations.
