Jerusalem, August 11 (H.S.) – Families of Israeli citizens held hostage in Gaza have called for a nationwide strike next Sunday, protesting the Israeli security cabinet’s recent decision to intensify the war and seize Gaza City.

At a press conference in Tel Aviv, the families declared, “We will shut down the country to save our soldiers and hostages.” The ‘October 7 Forum’—representing families of soldiers killed at the start of the war—has joined the campaign.

According to organisers, the initiative will begin as a grassroots movement, with private companies and ordinary citizens voluntarily participating. Within hours, the ‘October 7 Forum’ claimed that hundreds of companies and thousands of people had already pledged to stop work on Sunday.

However, Israel’s largest labour organisation, Histadrut, has not yet announced its participation. The families plan to meet Histadrut chairman Arnon Bar-David on Monday to seek support.

Anat Angres, mother of hostage Matan, made an emotional appeal to leaders in the industrial and labour sectors: “Your silence is costing our children’s lives. Being with us in spirit is not enough—this is the time to speak out. You have the power to make a difference.”
