Bodies of Kerala Residents Killed in Germany Fire Returned Home for Final Rites
The remains of Sivin Jony and Anjali, victims of a fire in Germany, have returned to Kerala for their final ceremonies.

Ernakulam, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : The tragic incident in Bochum, Germany, has left families in Kerala mourning the loss of two young residents. Sivin Jony, aged 26, and Anjali Sheila Joy, 25, were killed in a fire that engulfed a residential building last week. Their remains were brought back to India and arrived at Nedumbassery Airport late Friday night.
Upon arrival, the bodies were handed over to their families and representatives. They will be taken to the CEA Hospital in Aluva for further formalities. A prayer service will be held at their home at 2 PM, followed by Sivin’s funeral at St. Rocky’s Church in Manikamangalam. Anjali’s body has been transported to her hometown in Kollam for her final rites.
Additionally, the body of Nova Sabu, who also perished in the fire due to smoke inhalation, is expected to arrive at Nedumbassery Airport tonight at 8:15 PM. Nova was the daughter of retired sub-inspector K.P. Sabu and P.N. Jyoti, a public health nurse.
Sivin had recently moved to Germany for higher education and had two siblings living abroad. His brother, Salvin, resides in Germany, while his sister, Simi, is in Ireland. Anjali had traveled to Germany in July for work and was employed at a warehouse.
The fire incident occurred in a multi-story residential building in North Rhine-Westphalia, where three Indian nationals lost their lives. The Indian Embassy in Germany expressed its condolences, noting that all three were studying in the country.
Reports indicate that authorities suspect the fire was deliberately set on the lower floors of the building, leading to a rapid spread through wooden staircases, which served as the main exit. German police have arrested a 41-year-old Romanian resident of the building on suspicion of murder.
