Devotees Flock to Ujjain for Spectacular Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple

Thousands gathered in Ujjain for the Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple, witnessing a divine spectacle on October 23.

Ujjain, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : In Ujjain, on October 23, a large number of devotees gathered at the Mahakaleshwar Temple to witness the Bhasma Aarti, held on the auspicious occasion of the Dwadasi in the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. This extraordinary event drew many to the temple complex, eager to experience its spiritual ambiance.

Early Friday morning, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums, following the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra. After the divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were allowed to have darshan of Baba Mahakal.

The temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” as the atmosphere filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras. Following the opening of the temple doors, the water abhishekam of Lord Mahakal commenced, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices.

During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. After the camphor aarti, Baba Mahakal donned a silver crown. The Bhasma Aarti was then performed with the accompaniment of traditional instruments like jingles, drums, and conch shells.

Baba Mahakal was adorned with a silver crown and rudraksha beads, as many devotees lined up since the night before to witness this sacred ritual. According to tradition, the Bhasma Aarti is offered to Baba Mahakal by the Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after the offering of the sacred ash, Baba Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees.

This remarkable Aarti draws countless devotees to the holy city of Ujjain, where they feel blessed to have the opportunity to witness the divine.
