Mumbai, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an important notice for residents of Mumbai. According to a press release from the BMC’s public relations department on October 7, a prototype siren will be tested in the city on October 8 and 9.
The testing will take place at the Civil Defense College buildings located near the old Secretariat and Cross Maidan in Fort. During the test, the siren will sound, and its noise will be audible in the surrounding areas.
BMC officials have urged citizens not to panic upon hearing the siren and to avoid any misconceptions. They clarified that this is merely a scheduled technical test and not an indication of any real emergency or threat.
This prototype siren has been developed by a team from the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) under the guidance of the Director General of Civil Defense in New Delhi. Currently, sirens are installed at three locations in Mumbai: the old Secretariat, the Annex Building (Fort), and the Civil Defense College (Cross Maidan).
The test is seen as a step towards strengthening the national civil defense system. In the future, these sirens will be used to alert citizens promptly in case of emergencies.
The BMC has requested residents to cooperate with the administration during the test and to refrain from believing any unauthorized information or rumors. If the siren is heard, local citizens are advised to remain calm and continue their daily activities.
The BMC assured that the test is completely safe and aims solely to assess the functionality of the equipment. In a densely populated city like Mumbai, such an advanced warning system is crucial. Local police and civil defense teams will be present at the site to prevent any disturbances during the testing.
