BLF Chief Accuses Balochistan CM of Enforcing Harsh Detention Laws

Quetta: Allah Nazar Baloch, leader of the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), has accused Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti of imposing “harsh and oppressive detention laws” in the province. He alleged that Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies abduct an average of five people daily, forcibly disappearing them.

In a statement shared on the social media platform ‘Truth Social,’ Allah Nazar Baloch appealed to the United Nations, European Union, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and global intellectuals to raise their voices against the alleged “genocide” of Baloch people in Balochistan.

He wrote, “The puppet Chief Minister of occupied Balochistan, acting on the advice of his masters, has introduced a repressive detention law. I urge international human rights organisations to protest against this atrocity.”

Allah Nazar further claimed, “These detention centres remind one of Nazi torture camps. Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies abduct an average of five people daily and make them disappear. The ‘kill and dump’ policy has intensified under this cruel state in Balochistan.”

The BLF chief also questioned the silence of Baloch parliamentarians, stating that remaining silent in the face of injustice is tantamount to complicity. He described the Baloch independence movement as “legitimate,” aligned with international laws and principles.

He added, “I also want to address those Baloch MPs who claim to be non-violent. If that is true, why is there complete silence on these barbaric state actions? Silence during injustice is participation in injustice. The world is moving towards a multipolar order, but the United Nations still exists and bears moral and legal responsibility.”

Allah Nazar reiterated his appeal to the UN, EU, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and global intellectuals to speak openly against the alleged genocide of the Baloch nation. “History will judge those who stood against oppression and those who closed their eyes,” he said.

It is noteworthy that a recent report highlighted that the Balochistan provincial government, led by the controversial Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, approved the ‘Balochistan Prevention, Detention and De-radicalisation Rules 2025.’ The report suggested that this move aims to legally justify enforced disappearances in the province.

Earlier this week, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bugti, the Balochistan provincial cabinet passed the contentious rules. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led government’s decision allows forcibly disappeared individuals to be declared ‘suspects’ and detained in custody centres under the supervision of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police officials for interrogation.

An editorial in ‘The Balochistan Post’ analysed that the approval of the ‘Balochistan Prevention, Detention and De-radicalisation Rules 2025’ with the support of Pakistan’s powerful institutions attempts to legitimise enforced disappearances in Balochistan. The move appears aimed at suppressing growing movements against disappearances and silencing the voices of affected families.

The editorial further stated, “Instead of presenting the disappeared persons in courts, detaining them as ‘suspects’ for interrogation directly violates fundamental human rights guaranteed by Pakistan’s constitution.”
