New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : As the BRICS summit approaches, political tensions have escalated in India. Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram raised concerns regarding the upcoming conference, prompting a swift response from BJP leaders. Gaurav Vallabh, a BJP spokesperson, referred to Chidambaram as a “disgruntled uncle” and accused him of fabricating claims. Meanwhile, BJP MP Ajit Gopchade also criticized Chidambaram’s statements, recalling the Congress party’s past governance.
Central Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia defended India’s presidency of BRICS, asserting that the summit would enhance collaboration among member nations. He emphasized the importance of leaders from various countries gathering in India, which presents a significant opportunity for cooperation.
Vallabh targeted Chidambaram’s remarks by questioning his awareness of BRICS Bank’s financial support for development projects in Madhya Pradesh and Guwahati. He pointed out that the BRICS platform facilitates crucial funding for such initiatives.
Gopchade dismissed Chidambaram’s concerns as inappropriate, noting that a BRICS summit occurred under Congress’s leadership in 2012. He questioned why Congress failed to recognize the benefits of that summit. Gopchade accused Chidambaram of political loyalty to the Gandhi family and criticized the Congress leadership.
He further stated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, major global powers are converging in India to discuss development and peace, reinforcing India’s position on the world stage.
Scindia reiterated the success of India’s BRICS presidency, expressing hope that member countries would find new avenues for collaboration during the summit. He highlighted India’s various models in different sectors that could be shared with other nations, ensuring the summit would extend beyond mere meetings.
The Ministry of External Affairs announced that the BRICS summit is scheduled for September 12 and 13, with preliminary events on September 11. The entire summit will take place at the India Mandapam Complex, where an International Media Center is being established for media coverage.
Sunil Sharma, the opposition leader in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, welcomed the BRICS summit, stating it provides a platform for nations and global powers to unite, reflecting India’s strength and global role. He emphasized that every Indian should support this significant event.
Retired Major General and defense expert P.K. Sehgal underscored the significance of the presence of Chinese and Russian leadership at the summit. He noted India’s desire for stable relations with China, while also prioritizing peace and stability along their border. Sehgal emphasized that discussions during BRICS would cover not only bilateral relations but also border security, which remains strategically important.
In Patna, Bihar government minister Santosh Kumar Suman questioned Congress’s ideology following Chidambaram’s comments on BRICS. He suggested that such remarks reveal the party’s political mindset and called for accountability regarding Congress’s actions over the past four decades.
In a creative expression of enthusiasm for the summit, renowned sand artist and animator Manas Kumar Sahu has prepared sand art to welcome BRICS leaders. He expressed excitement about the summit, noting that the world is focused on India at this time.
