BJP Lawmakers Reject Claims of Food Restrictions in Bengal, Accuse Mamata Banerjee of Spreading Fear

New Delhi, March 30: Political tensions have escalated following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks about potential bans on meat and fish consumption if a BJP government takes over the state. BJP lawmakers have denounced her statements as inflammatory and fear-mongering.

Madan Rathore, the BJP’s state president in Rajasthan, stated in an interview that Banerjee is attempting to incite the public, but citizens will not be swayed by her provocations. He emphasized that the BJP and NDA governments are active in several states, where development is progressing rapidly. He noted that in states governed by the BJP, the populace is content, and similar growth would occur in Bengal if the BJP comes to power. Rathore asserted that many states in India allow complete freedom to consume meat and fish, labeling Banerjee’s comments as mere attempts to provoke the public.

Uttarakhand BJP president and MP Mahendra Bhatt also criticized Banerjee’s remarks. He suggested that she anticipates her defeat, prompting her to signal that food restrictions would be imposed under a BJP government. Bhatt affirmed that the BJP does not impose bans on food choices, and in states where the party is in power, people enjoy the freedom to eat what they prefer.

Regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Bhatt mentioned that Uttarakhand has initiated steps in this direction, with positive outcomes visible across the nation. He noted that states like Gujarat have followed suit, ensuring that the benefits of a fair UCC reach all citizens equally.

BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra claimed that Banerjee is trying to confuse the public. He pointed out that in BJP-ruled states, there are no restrictions on non-vegetarian food. He cited Bihar, where a coalition government allows people the freedom to choose their meals.

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut stated that Banerjee’s remarks aim to instill fear. She referenced the violence during the last assembly elections in West Bengal, highlighting the plight of BJP workers and the public. Ranaut accused Banerjee of attempting to intimidate voters.

Additionally, BJP MP Arun Govil questioned Banerjee’s statements, asserting that while accusations can be made, there is no substantial evidence to support them.
