Punjab Chief Minister Commits to Strong Action Against Drug Traffickers

Punjabs Chief Minister emphasizes the states commitment to eradicating drugs, urging community involvement in the fight against substance abuse.

Phillaur, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated on Friday that eliminating drugs is the state government’s top priority. He emphasized that the state police has full freedom to take strict action against drug traffickers without any political interference.

During a review of the state’s anti-drug campaign, “War Against Addiction,” at the Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur, Mann announced the approval of 117 new vehicles for Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to strengthen enforcement efforts.

Mann called for transforming the anti-drug campaign into a public movement, stressing that the fight against drugs cannot be won solely through police action. Active participation from every family, village, and neighborhood is essential.

Addressing senior police officials, Mann described drug abuse as a serious social evil threatening the future of Punjab’s youth. He stated that the government is adopting a comprehensive strategy targeting both the supply and demand sides of the drug problem. This strategy aims to dismantle trafficking networks and disrupt the supply chain.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the battle against drugs is not just the responsibility of law enforcement agencies; it must become a public movement. He reiterated that law enforcement agencies are empowered to carry out their duties without recommendations or political interference.

Mann criticized the central government, alleging that drug trafficking is widespread in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, while Punjab and its people are being targeted and defamed regarding this issue. He urged the central government to take effective measures to curb drug trafficking through the international border and Gujarat instead of tarnishing Punjab’s image.

He concluded by assuring that the government will continue to take action against those pushing the youth towards addiction, ensuring that the threat of drugs does not tarnish Punjab’s reputation.
