BJP and Congress Launch Scathing Attacks on Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Over Alleged Intoxication

New Delhi, May 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have launched sharp criticisms against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann following allegations of him appearing intoxicated in the assembly. Leaders pointed out that Mann is the same chief minister who claimed to be working towards making the state drug-free.

Delhi BJP President Virender Sachdeva expressed his astonishment, stating, “It is shocking that a person who has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution is speaking in a drunken state within the assembly premises.” He emphasized that both the assembly and parliament are considered temples of democracy.

Sachdeva further remarked that if Bhagwant Mann is behaving in such a manner in these sacred institutions, it is extremely disgraceful. He accused Mann of misleading the youth of Punjab, claiming that instead of achieving a drug-free state, he has pushed all the youth into substance abuse.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also weighed in, questioning who would adhere to the rules and regulations of the state assembly if the chief minister himself does not. He insisted that if the opposition raises an issue, it is the responsibility of the chief minister to prove otherwise. Such actions tarnish the image of Punjab and its people, he added.

Warring alleged that the Punjab government, including Chief Minister Mann, is under pressure. He claimed that they are aware of the potential backlash from the BJP government, particularly with Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak involved. “Everything is happening under pressure,” he stated.

The state Congress president further noted that the situation is precarious, indicating that they do not even trust their own legislators.

Opposition leader in the Punjab assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, remarked that in the 75 years of India’s independence, it is unprecedented for an elected leader to face such serious allegations without accepting them.
