Bihars NDA Strategizes Ahead of Rajya Sabha Elections

Patna, March 14: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar is actively strategizing for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, scheduled for March 16. On Saturday, the BJP’s core committee convened, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) held a meeting at its state office with all party legislators present.

Later in the evening, NDA legislators gathered at the residence of Upendra Kushwaha, the leader of the National Lok Morcha, to discuss the elections. A feast was also organized at Kushwaha’s residence.

The meeting at the Lok Janshakti Party’s Bihar office included key figures such as Harsh Malhotra, the central observer for the NDA and Union Minister of Road Transport, Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, and BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi. Other notable attendees included National General Secretary Rituraj Sinha, along with LJP (Ram Vilas) state president Raju Tiwari and acting state president Ashraf Ansari.

During the meeting at Kushwaha’s residence, Janata Dal (United) National Executive President Sanjay Kumar Jha expressed confidence that the NDA would secure all five seats in the elections. He stated, “According to our information, we are set to win all five seats, with four already confirmed and the fifth one likely to be won by a significant margin.” BJP legislator Sunil Kumar Pintoo echoed this sentiment, asserting that the feast symbolizes a celebration of their anticipated victory.

This election is particularly significant as five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar are currently vacant. The NDA has nominated candidates for all five seats, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has put forth one candidate. In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, a candidate requires the support of 41 legislators to win. Currently, the NDA holds 202 seats, making it well-positioned to secure four seats.

Even after winning four seats, the NDA will have some votes left over, but it will need support from other legislators to win the fifth seat. The opposition is led by the Grand Alliance, headed by the RJD, which has 35 legislators and will also require additional support to secure a seat. This has intensified discussions around political strategies and alliances ahead of the elections.
