Bihar Police Clash with Criminals: One Injured, Two Officers Hurt

Kishanganj, May 21: In Bihar, a series of encounters between police and criminals has unfolded over the past four days. On Wednesday night, an encounter in Kishanganj district resulted in one criminal being injured by a gunshot to the leg, while two police officers also sustained injuries.

A police official reported on Thursday that they received information about a group of criminals gathering near a railway crossing in the Farhingola area, planning a significant criminal act. To verify this information, a police team was formed and began surrounding the area.

During the operation, a suspicious individual on an unregistered motorcycle attempted to flee upon noticing the police. When the police pursued him, he opened fire on the officers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the criminal was shot in the leg. The injured criminal has been identified as Pawan Kumar, alias Chintu, a resident of Rautara in Katihar district, and a notorious gang leader involved in inter-state robbery, theft, and snatching.

His gang includes members from Bihar and West Bengal. Preliminary reports indicate that this criminal has a history of involvement in approximately 12 incidents of robbery and other crimes across districts such as Patna, Araria, and Madhubani. The two injured police officers were promptly taken to the Sadar Hospital in Kishanganj for treatment.

Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar also visited the scene and the hospital to assess the situation and provide necessary instructions to the officers. At the crime scene, police recovered the unregistered motorcycle used by the criminal, along with a pistol and several spent cartridges. The area has been secured, and a forensic team is collecting evidence.

According to police, initial investigations have linked the injured criminal and his gang to several recent thefts and robberies in Kishanganj district. Efforts are underway to apprehend other gang members and recover stolen motorcycles and other items.

Earlier this week, another criminal was injured in a police encounter in Samastipur district late Tuesday night. On Monday night, an individual involved in a robbery of 2.7 million rupees from a cash van was also injured in a police encounter in the Gopalpur area of Patna. Three other suspects have been arrested in connection with that case. Additionally, two wanted criminals were injured in separate encounters in Patna and Siwan early Monday morning.
